Questions and answers.

About the directory

What is Photographers First?

A directory of photo contests, awards, grants and open calls from around the world, checked by hand, sorted by deadline, with the fee, prize and time left on every listing.

How often is it updated?

Every day. New calls are added as organizers announce them and as we find them. Closed calls move to the archive automatically at the deadline.

Do you run the contests?

No. We list calls run by others and link to their rules. Always read the organizer's terms before you pay an entry fee.

How do you decide what to list?

We list calls with a clear organizer, clear rules and a real prize or opportunity. We do not list calls that claim rights over your work beyond what is needed to show it, and we flag high fees.

Free and Pro

What can I see for free?

Every listing's title, organizer, prize headline and closing month. About one in six listings is open in full, as is every call in its final 48 hours, every featured call and every call posted by its own organizer.

What does Pro add?

Exact deadlines, fees, briefs and apply links on every listing, plus alerts, the entry tracker, fee budget, comparison, calendar sync, the archive and every guide.

How much is it?

Pro is €4.99 a month or €39 a year (with a gift year for a friend). Both start with 30 days free.

Can I give Pro as a gift?

Yes. Gift codes for 3 to 24 months are on the gift page. They never expire.

Entering contests well

Are photo contests worth entering?

The good ones are. A credible jury, a fair rights clause and a prize that matches the fee can bring money, publication, exhibitions and contacts. Enter fewer contests, chosen carefully, rather than many at random.

How do I spot a bad contest?

Watch for vague organizers, no named jury, fees that are high compared with the prizes, pressure to buy extras after entering, and rules that take ownership of your images or allow unlimited commercial use.

What rights should a contest ask for?

A non-exclusive licence to show the entries and promote the competition, with your credit, for a limited time. Anything more, such as all rights or use in advertising for sponsors, should be paid or avoided.

Which time zone are deadlines in?

We store every deadline in UTC from the official rules and show it in your own time zone, with a countdown. If the organizer gives only a date, we treat it as the end of that day in their time zone.

What is the Friday list?

Our free weekly newsletter: new calls, free contests first, and the deadlines closing in the next ten days. It arrives every Friday morning and you can leave with one click.

Account, payments and privacy

How do I cancel Pro?

From your account, in one click, through the billing portal. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for.

Can I get a refund?

In the EU you can withdraw within 14 days of subscribing; we refund the unused part. Write to [email protected].

Do you sell my data?

No. Advertising cookies stay off unless you switch them on, and we never sell personal data. See the privacy policy for details.

Who runs Photographers First?

Bornbee Technologies, an independent company in Trieste, Italy. VAT number 10570971217.

For organizers

How do I list my contest?

Create a free organizer account and submit it. We review within one working day. Listings from organizers are open to everyone, free of charge.

How long does review take?

One working day for most listings. If something is unclear we email you rather than reject the listing.

Can I edit a published listing?

Yes. Descriptions, images and categories update at once. Changes to the title, deadline, fee or apply link go back to a quick review, so photographers can trust what they read.

How do promotions work?

A featured placement puts your call at the top of the directory, the home page and the Friday newsletter, with a click report. See the organizer page for packages.

Something else? Write to [email protected]. A person answers within two working days.
